I want to hook up a cold cathode case light in my system. Most of the kits online include an adapter to hook it up to a PSU molex. I however want to be able to plug it into a wall outlet. Can I just go get one of those $10 Radio shack 12V wall power adapters and splice the light into it and have it work?

Thanks

yep, just make sure it has a decent amperage rating...though you shouldn't need too much for a light like that.

i'd say maybe at least 300-500 milliamps @ 12 volts

there will be a polarity indicator on the adapter to tell you which is positive and which is negative

you can either cut off the connector or simply stick a wire in the center and wrap a wire around the shield and then electrical tape the heck out of it

it will work just fine

You should take the cold cathode light (and any manual) with you when you go to RadioShack, if you are lucky you will get help selecting the correct DC power supply and an appropriate connector. I deal directly with my local RadioShack store manager, he takes real good care of me 'cause he has gotten to know me over the last eight years I have shopped at his store.

Good luck at Radio Shack. ALL the radio shacks by me are staffed with complete morons. They would look at you with a blank dumbass look on their face if you asked them anything like this. I wish they were half as knowledgeable as the manager at your local store.
