Hey guys,

I sold my OLD desktop over 6 months ago. I have no desktops now but my 23 inch monitor is doing nothing and collection dust now.

This is my monitor that is collecting dust now. Asus PA238q

I currently game (heroes and generals MP) on this laptop Acer Aspire V3-572G-54S6 but the resolution is not the best and the screen is crappy compared to the Asus 23 inch IPS panel.

Current gaming laptop --->

The laptop has a Nvidia 840M graphics card.

Questions

1) Does it make sense to hook up the laptop to the 23 inch monitor to game considering the graphics card.

2) Should I hook it up using HDMI cable or VGA cable?

Moved from General Hardware.

1) depends on what games you play. It will be nice when doing web browsing/work/emails though.
2) HDMI > VGA. VGA will probably work, but might have some issues.

expect the game to run at half the FPS when going from 1366x768 -> 1920x1080, given the same settings.

the 840m is a rather low end GPU and can't push 1080p in any modern/graphically demanding games at acceptable frame rates.

All you need is a cable to try it. If it is not immediately satisfactory frame speed or quality, you could try lesser resolutions to see which gives the best combined result.
