hooking mic/headphone to pc

bought my GF a Creative X-Fi card and some Creative Intrigue 3800 2.1 speakers, the speakers have a volume box with a headphone/aux jack on them. Maybe I'm confused but shouldn't the aux jack support a microphone? She plays LOTR😱 and would like to use headphones & voice chat with the speakers muted.
