Hooking computer up to HDTV

I have an ATI Radeon video card with a tv-output. Is it possible to use a digital television as a monitor? Would it look good?

What kind of tv-output? Component out I assume? You won't see a difference between HDTV and normal TV if you use component out.

thelanx, of coarse you mean "composite" video-out rather than "component" video-out(I wish my AIW Radeon had component video-out!), and of coarse it can carry a signal of slightly better than broadcast signal, but it does have s-video out, but you are limited to 800x600x60hz with the TV-out, and basically useful for FPS and the like gameplay or watching DVD's and video files(quite good actually), but not very good for anything text based.

Maybe you could use a scan converter to output your desktop at a reasonable resolution for using as a monitor, or maybe somebody at Rage3d has come up with a digital ouput using the DVI connection or the like, it seems like some of the members were hot on that issue a while back since the Radeon actually can support component video-output and HDTV resolutions, but lacking the technology to implement it.

Good luck! Report for sure if you find something!

If your HDTV has a VGA input or "wideband" RGBH+/- BNC inputs you should be able to connect the VGA port of your PC to the TV. With a VGA input just connect it like a monitor. With the wideband input you'd need a VGA to BNC adapter cable. You should check with the TV manufacturer to be sure and to find out what resolutions/refreshs are supported. The wideband input will probably only do 640x480, the VGA input might be better.

Using the TV-out of the video card will look the same as on a regular TV.
