hey guys....
I got my hands on a Sony camcorder, and i wanted to hook it up to my machine to do a bit of video editing n all... the problem is that i do not know how to do that..

this has s-video out, and also the normal stuff you use to hook it up to the TV (composite?). I know I have to buy a card, I just wanna know which one...

I'm guessing that you have an analog video camera since you got it from someone else (no one would give a digital camera yet). With the analog video cameras you have have a capture device like the one someone on this forum told me about. The capture card I have is the TV LEADTEK WINFAST TV2000XP TV/FM MULTIMEDIA CARD. It is much simpler to use than the Hauppauge (crappage) or the any of the other cards I looked at. Check out the reviews on this card. The link is below:

Newegg

Good Luck, hope this helps

hey thanks cal!

I was thinking more along the lines of a AGP card that does this, and also helps a bit with my 3D ;) (ive got an aging geforce2 GTS)
Does anyone know of any cards in the $100-150 price range that can do this?

UlricT, please state which Sony Camcorder you have. Is it MiniDV format? If so, you will want to get a Firewire port (PCI add-on card) to transfer it to your PC.

If you want an AGP graphics card with these inputs, the Radeon All-in-wonder's are probably the best, although you can find some nice Geforce-based cards with these inputs as well.

I have a ATI All in wonder 7500 64ddr and it works well and you could probably get it for $100.00. The 8500 is probably $150.00

Pauli, im sure its not miniDV format or anything.... This is no fancy camcorder with firewire 'n all... Its just a run-of-the-mill camcorder (cant get the specs rite now... in sitting in class :) ). As I mentioned earlier, the only two outputs from it is S-Video and the other output used to hook up to normal TV (a/v output).

I know I am going to need something like a AIW card, but I wanted to make sure whether that was all I needed for pulling video into my machine...

thanks Mr.Phelps....

I was looking at the AIW 8500 becoz I think that is the only one that is going to bring me some real improvement with regards to 3D. But I havent seen it cheaper than $200 anywhere!!!
