The topic pretty much says it all. I bought a new 120gig WD and a usb 2.0 enclosure that i recieved today. Hooked it all up, and xp recognized a mass usb device and told me to restart because it installed the neccessary drivers. I restart and the drive doesnt show up under my computer. I tried another hard drive as well and the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!

doesnt it come formatted...i'm using this on a laptop, so i hope it does....i tried one drive that is formatted, just has a bunch of music and such on it...didnt recognize that either...

If you are running windows xp go into your control panel. Administrative tools. Then computer management. Then on the left go to disc management. Do you see your hard drive in there? If so it either needs formatted if so right click and do that. If not it might need a drive letter change because it is defaulting to a letter that is already taken. Right click it to change the letter too.

ok wait, i still had the jumper set on something else, now it shows up under disk management as "not intialized" unallocated...im assuming i right click and "initialize disk"?

well, i initialized it, which took like 2 seconds. but it still doesnt show up in my computer. in computer management it nows says it online, and then 117.gb unallocated....i dont need to partition it...do i? its showing up as disk 2, it doesnt have a drive letter...

you need to format it
initilizing it just makes so windows knows its there and gives it a drive letter

right click on it and select format

Errr I already said that above but oh well..

Partition first, then format. It should show up then.

Actually, it will show up after you partition, but if you try to click on it, Windows will tell you that it is unformatted.

niiiiice! its formatting right now, hopefully ti will show up after that. On the drive that was already formatted with my music and such on it...will i just need to go into computer management and initialize it for xp to recognize it? I shouldnt have to format it would i? Thanks again!

not to be spoil sport....but did you ever think of reading the directions that came with the USB enclosure?

this is typically all laid out in the instructions for the usb enclosure.
