Hi there,

I have a small LAN here at home with the terribly buggy Intel AnyPoint HomeRF network adapters which makeup a wireless network and I have a sever which is my gateway to my DSL connection. Here is what I want to do:

I have one computer upstairs that uses the wireless to get on the LAN and on the Internet and I was wondering if it would be possible to simply use a NIC in that computer and set another computer by its side and connect the two via CAT5 cable. Would the new computer be able to access the Internet? What gateway IP should it use? The computer it is connected to or the server itself? Or is this even possible to do?

Regards,

I don?t remember the make up Intel AnyPoint HomeRF , if it uses standard Ethernet you can connect the additional computer, and you will have some kind of connection.
However, the computer will not use the Internet on its own without a Routing solution. Given unusual setting like yours I don?t know which Routing solution can work.

You would create a two station LAN if I understand what you are asking correctly. Perhaps there is software that would route already router Private IP's from a SOHO router or ICS. Never heard of it but that doesnt mean anything.

Thanks for the help guys. It was just an idea and isn't a very important topic.. was just wondering if it would easily work. I'll just connect directly to a router or a switch with that puter :)

Thanks again :)
