Hood popped open on interstate

I took my brand spanking new 2011 MDX for its first road trip. On the way back, I was driving at 75mph, when I had to overtake a car, I pushed it to 90+ and took the right lane and saw my hood had popped open. Luckily the safety latch held it down or I would had a major accident. I stopped immediately and closed the hood but it was a scary feeling. Will be taking it in to the dealer to check it out.

Why would you have had a major accident? Unless you panic, just let off the gas and signal for the side of the road. You can peer under the lower edge as the hood is unlikely to obscure the entire windshield.

Since its so new dont bother testing it yourself. Take it to the dealer and they will inspect it for you for free. Dont risk it coming up at speed. Its not worth it.

It would possibly have broken the windshield and caused quite a bit of damage if the safety catch had not worked.

The surprise is what causes folks to crash...

Anyway, now you know why there are two latches and you can wonder how old folks got along with only one.

Wow that's crazy, when reading the thread title I assumed you were driving an old junk box from the trailer park 😛

I was riding my motorcycle on the interstate a few years ago and the entire hood of a car flew off of the car and would have killed me if I had not reacted immediately.

Yes, you should take it back to the dealership immediately. They can teach you how to close your hood. The Service Department really like customers like you. Once we had a customer who drove in and couldn't get unbuckled from their seat belt. We laughed for days on that one.

uh hi officer. I was going 100 because I was testing my hood.

Yes. I'm an idiot for listening to some guy on a forum... 😀

I had a friend with whose Toyota Corolla's hood fully opened going down the road, put a very nice crease in the hood, didn't take out the windshield though.
