10/10 for sure. I don't know how she did it, but it was the best.

Competent, and simple but tasty. She does a good job with "classic American" food, but I don't think she could do much fancy, or use unique ingredients.

Yea, but you got guys like ponyo and kaido that could be someone's "mom". They take "home cooking" to a whole new level.

7.5/10. She enjoyed trying new and interesting things, loved doing food from different cultures, had some family recipes, knew how to use spices, and was good at stovetop work, but was never much of a baker: cakes always fell, cookies never tasted right, etc.

For the baking, part of me thinks she probably just never had a very good oven - it's hard to bake cookies when you can simultaneously burn and undercook parts of the same cookie sheet. We had nicer appliances when I was older, but she was working again by then. Dinners got increasingly "quick and easy" - even to the point of cooking chicken tenders in the microwave to save time.

4/10. I don't know how many foods I thought I didn't like because she cooked them poorly. She gets a 4 though because she did (does) have some half decent specialties.

6/10. If my Dad did not like something he would tell her to not save the recipe. :)

I do have 2 card boxes of her recipes. They are heavy on pastries, etc. Probably why I am heavy.

My mom could cook well when she was in the mood. Otherwise it was pretty mediocre. My wife cooks most excellently, far better than my mom ever did.

My mom was never a great cook. It rarely tasted good, it would build a turd...and isn't that what really matters? :p

One of the requirements when I was dating was that the woman had to be a decent cook...I went through way too many who could burn water.

My mom does not cook for me. Not for many years now. I cook for her on request (or i order food / get take out) what she wants to eat every week though before i visit her.
But when she did cook for me, it was good and nice.

Current girlfriend is a great cook.

posting in Mayne thread,

i used to rate my mom's cooking 10/10. And then she started to put less effort in, started cutting on salt/fats, and it rapidly went downhill. She still cooks well, but prefers simple foods, while mine have gotten maybe overly complicated.

Speaking of, im gonna go make slow cooked Jerk pork chops. See you later suckers.

7/10 - 7 because I liked it but I deducted 3 points for making me not be able to stomach any other version. Not because it was that much better but because it was different than the norm.

I'd say 9/10. Grandma's cooking would be 10/10. :p Can't really complain either way.

There was the odd ball things I didn't really like as a kid but now that I'm older I enjoy going over for supper no matter what she makes and having a good home cooked meal. Way better than my cooking.

Heading there tonight actually. She's making Easter dinner for the whole family, I work, but she'll save me a plate.

Been away for 25 yrs and always enjoyed her cooking when I visit or she comes to visit. I’m a decent cook but I can only make the dish looks like hers but doesn’t taste like it. She has one complex specialty dish that all us siblings have given up trying because it’s near impossible to get the flavor right.

My mom cooked with love. <3 And I dearly wish I had her recipe for dill salad dressing. It was the best, but sadly, it was lost when she passed.

hugs
mom could bake, light rolls and pie crust that was perfection, family candy recipes.
our daily fare was nothing fancy, she worked the whole time us kids were growing up and didn't have much time to experiment.
