I agree, and i was a hater when HL2 first came out. You have to admit that steam was broken back then. However, im now a believer.

I'll use steam again once TF2 (HUGE TFC nut back in the day...talking 4+ yrs of playing the game) and PORTAL (simply, wow) are released along with HL2: EP2.

Me too... Occasionally I still load up TFC and play a game or two. Just nowadays there's too many servers with just bots, not a big variety of active servers anymore. Can't wait for TF2, it'll give new life to the TF players

And Adaman, FYI the Friends list has been working for many months now.

I can't get connected with a buddy of mine, maybe we don't have the right ports open for it or something like that, but it seems like it should be working. We just paste the IP of the server we're playing in Trillian, which isn't too bad.

I hosted a private server for me and a friend, we had to open a port on our routers. Once that was done, it was gravgun-tastic.

Edit: I think you need to open the dedicated ports listed here

You can disable Steam from loading at startup in the options.

When is it slow for you? It sure used to be, but now it opens almost immediately and closes instantly. It is a bit slow initially loading a game like HL2, but to help alleviate that I disable the animated main menus.

I have never had an issue with STEAM.

I was really pumped when it switched to it for CS 1.6.

So many games, its so simple, I like it a lot.

Only issue WAS the friends list not working, but it seems perfect now :)

I love it, just bought X3 off it last week and I'm totally addicted to it.

How does it effect reboots at all?

The Friends list is finnicky, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and really not that many people use it. having a built in IRC program would b e nice. other than that i have no complaints, being able to reload all my games just by redownlading steam saves a lot of the hassle

Steam is pretty awesome until it goes down for an entire day. Oh yeah, like today!

Haha I was just thinking the same thing. Yeah these isolated days suck, but you have to realize the greater good!
