I'm thinking about buying one to go along with my upgrade parts.
I want to know how good this card really is.
I'm upgrading from a 6600 GT (AGP 8x).
Only trouble is...the new X800 GTO will only run at PCIe 4x (due to mobo).

1. Is this a good overall upgrade?
2. How much performance will i lose because of the 4x?

1. That really depends on the price and if you're going to overclock it at all (its potential is enormous).

2. Not much performance loss because of 4x.

It's not much of an upgrade unless you're overclocking the snot (or other bodily excretion) out of it IMO. If you're staying AGP then I'd just keep the 6600GT or try to trade your card for the PCIe version if that's the route you're going.

well actually i want to go the PCIe route (full 16x when i change mobo later on)
and yes i'm planning on overclocking this card
which is faster....agp 8x OR pcie 4x ???

Go 7600GT or higher.

Maybe that X1800XL ppl have been linking to on sale?

X800GTO isn't enough of an upgrade.

I believe you are getting that ASROCK mobo for conroe. Read up that article "Conroe Buying Guide: Feeding the Monster" on the main page. That mobo is featured there and runs a 7900GTX only a couple of fps short of the full PCIe 16X mobos. So don't worry about a X800GTO in that mobo.

EDIT: Even if it isn't that same mobo, the mobo I'm talking about is also PCIe 4X and handles the 7900GTX just fine.

You are correct...This is what i'm getting...
ASRock 775Dual-VSTA Socket T (LGA 775) VIA PT880 PRO ATX Intel Motherboard

The X800 GTO can be had for $90 at Newegg.
So....Good upgrade?

Depends how much you plan to OC. At stock settings it's not a significant upgrade, but if you OC it past 500mhz, and especially if it unlocks to 16 pipes it would be 2x as fast as a 6600gt.

I agree the X800 is more of a side grade.

Try for one of the above listed.
