Honda to recall 561,594 cars

Honda to recall 561,594 cars at cost of $24 mln Wed Jun 14, 2:22 AM ET
Japan's Honda Motor Co. (7267.T) said on Wednesday it would recall and repair a combined 561,594 units of the Odyssey, CR-V and Step Wgn models globally to fix a faulty ignition switch that could cause the engine to stop.

The recall and repairs would cost the company around 2.73 billion yen ($23.70 million), a spokeswoman said.

Of the total, 483,185 units are in Japan and were built between October 1994 and May 1997, Honda said in a filing with Japan's transport ministry.

Most of the recalls outside Japan cover the Odyssey minivan sold in North America. No accidents were reported overseas, while five people in Japan suffered burns from contact with melted ignition switches.

some manufacturers know about problems for years and do absolutely nothing.

recalls are never good, but if it came down to continuing to ignore a problem vs recall, recall is always preferred.

Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

ROFL, my brother in Law had called my wife to warn her that her car was going to catch on fire or drip molten metal on her legs or something. He is a nut case so I dismissed it out of hand. NOW I know where he got started tonight. Of course, the '05 Pilot looks to be out of the range of years and models😛
