I have a 97 Prelude and I am wanting to do some modest work to it to increase the quickness. Does anyone have any products that they would recomend. Exhaust is the 1st thing that comes to mind but I don't want my car sounding like a chainsaw on steroids. Any help would be much appreciated.

if you wanna go rice go ahead and make a prelude fast. Honda "fast" car=rice. If you dont wanna be a ricer get a GTO. Import one of the new ones from ausie. If you HAVE to go rice. COLD air intake 9' k&n cone filter NOS t4 turbo fuel managment sys new injectors fuel rails. There ALOT you can do

Sorry if my post is a little bit incoherent. I am kinda wasted

Turbo? :D

Preludes are one of the cars I have always really liked... Sometime I wanna trade in my Civic and get a 97-00 'lude.

I don't like people like you calling every import with mods "rice." Those with 4 foot spoilers, racing stickers, coffee can exhaust, and stock engines are "rice." Don't go calling a prelude or anything like that with filters, turbo kits, or actual mods "rice."

You'll probably call the civic that smoked the viper a "riced" up car.

EDIT: Air filter, catalitic converter, and exhaust are some of the cheaper mods you can do.

i drive a prelude, what are your goals?

do you want to be 100% street legal? drag on weekends? full out drag? what's your budget like? etc etc etc etc

CAI will probably net you the most gains, although be forewarned you'll probably lose some torque

then you can do exhaust, headers, cam/cam gears, pulleys, and that's about it for basic bolt ons

you can go w/either FI or NA after that

NA will cost you an arm and a leg but will be easier to maintain

FI you have jackson racing supercharger and greddy's soon to be released turbo kit, which will cost you 3-6k

ya it all depends on what you want to gain. remember you cant just get horsepower etc from no where. if you gain something like top end power, chances are yoiu are losing a bit of lower end torque.

a few basic mods that you want to start off with is an exhaust and intake. Cold air intake (CAI) will get you more gains. you can put a free flowing cat converter, but it will increase the noise a lot. also, some cars already have a pretty free flowing converter, so by changing it you wont be gaining as much but your noise will go up greatly. you would want to put a free flowing muffler for sure, as stock ones are generally real restrictive. but remember that if you are puttiong an exhaust you want to make sure you can get enough air in as is going out, so that why you need an intake. also you can change the size of your piping of your exhaust. you wouldnt want to go more than 2.5 or 3 inches, because you would be losing a lot of power then.

if i were you, i would read in some honda or prelude forums online and see what people say about whats already in the car and what mods should be done and what to look out for.

for example, on my acura legend, i read in the forums that my piping is already 2.25" which is a pretty good size and the cat is already pretty free flowing and it wouldnt improve my performance too much by changing it. so all i did was change my muffler and i put an air breather to suck in more air. also, there usually ppl who show how to do custom mods for your car. im planning on doing a custom cCAI soon as shown on the acura legend forums. just make sure u research and figure our wat you want to do with your car and then see the gains and losses associated with certain mods.

my advice to you is dont change the cat, iunless you want the absolute max horse power you can get out of your car, because the gain is not worth the great amount of noise that will come. so for now, get an intake and a free flwoing muffler. and make sure you shop around different muffler shops. also, always get a written qiuote on their business card or something so when you go back they dont change hteir price on you.

I would like to increase the low end more than anything I have a decent amount of top-end.

Where can I find these forums. What brands do you recomend for CAI and the muffler.

I have a magnaflow muffler in my car. its of the street series of theri catalog. u can check their mufflers on magnaflow.com. Magnaflow is cheaper than a lot of other brands. Theres also Greddy and REmus exhausts, which generally cost more.

AS for the intake, i have an HKS breather. Theres K&N intakes too.

a few sites you may want to browse:

www.procarparts.com
www.autodynamic.com
www.nopi.com
www.ebay.com (not everything on ebay is good or cheap!)

also just search in yahoo yellow pages for 'muffler' and u will find a lot of muffler shops. then just go and talk to them. or take a friend who knows a bit about cars.

as far as mufflers, i think on a prelude, you should go with a dual our exhaust, instead of the cofee can types, i think it looks more luxurious, but it all depends on what kind of look you want as well. theres DTM style, which has teh raised ends, which is what i have on my car. also theres the ones with teh dual square tips. check them out on the magnaflow website. the more you go around and read and do research, the better idea you will get. just read the prelude forums for a couple of days. good luck.

i whore it on preludeonline.com

CAI's will get you 2-3% at high rpms, but you will lose bottom end power

sorry I don't know what'll help you with lower end torque except pulley's and turbo ;)

CAI wise you're pretty much looking at AEM, will run you 180-290 depending on what you want and if you want a bypass valve. You'll want a bypass valve if you live in an area that rains alot that way you won't hydrolock your car

exhaust wise, you have greddy, dc sports, tanabe, apexi, mugen if you're a baller

if you want max HP gain, you're gonna have to get a straight through pipe, but they are VERY loud, and you WILL attract cops, personally I prefer a lowdown quiet stealth mode thing, so yeah....
