Got an offer of 15938 (includes destination charge) + taxes from a dealer through TrueCar.

TrueCar says this is a "unusually low price".

MSRP is $17000.
Edmunds True Market Value is 16632

Trying costco program today. Dealer said below invoice but I don't know the price yet.

What do you guys think?

Your current quote is about 4% less than TrueCar...

By getting a price from Costco, I suspect that you are doing the right thing. Though, I would be surprised if the price were much different than the prices that you have.

Still, you also need to research dealers. Since many people use the dealer they purchase from for maintenance and warranty work, how you feel about the particular dealership is also an appropriate factor in your purchasing decision.

Fits a nice car.

Best of luck,
Uno

The dealer offering the discount is in riverside county. So maintenance/warranty work is out of the question. I go to my local dealer for service/warranty for my honda accord and plan to do the same for this one.

Not bad. Looking at around 17,300 otd? If they'll get you otd for 17.3 you did good IMO. More than likely though they'll have a grand in tint, pinstripe,etc..
I got a 13 fit sport auto for 18.5 otd which I haven't seen anywhere online where someone got one cheaper. Mine also had tint, wheel locks, pinstripe. They agreed on 18.5 otd and when I got there they tried to tell me it'd be another grand for the add ons. I got up to walk out and they gave me the car for the 18.5k.

Good to know. If they try to sell me the addons I'll walk out.

sounds like a decent price before tax.. I've heard there isn't a whole lot of wiggle room on Honda Fits as there are on other cars in the line-up; something about lower margins...

I was looking at a Fit because I liked the utility, but the HP was a bit of a concern to me, as was the AC.. so I wound up with a '13 civic lx sedan for about 17,100 before taxes, doc fee, and interest.

As a general rule, if I can't significantly beat Edmund's TMV or Truecar's great price, then I know I haven't gotten a good deal. The only exception is for particularly hot cars. The best source of data is to check the forum for your specific car or failing that, use Edmund's Townhall and look for the buying experience thread for your car.

When you meet the dealer, he should give you an exact price.

When I used the costco program, the sales manager told me flat out, $500 under invoice for any Altima, and at invoice for any Maxima. Ended up passing and getting a loss leader Camry from the Friday classifieds.

Sometimes with high volume dealers they sell so many that manufacturers give them a special pricing discount that's below published dealer cost via some sort of kickback ("ladder" payments or something like that). Can't remember the exact term, but that's how I got a car from a large dealer in Costa Mesa that was below cost.
