Dealer wants $125 to remove a door panel and screw in a door lock actuator. I can buy the part and do it myself, but don't know how to get the door panel off - Its a 99 Accord LX - can anyone help?

find all the screws and remove them. you then have to sort of pop it out and up. =\

just take your time and it will come off. it can be a pain in the ass though :p

1. Roll down the window all the way. Trust me.

2. There's a single screw behind the door handle. It's hidden by a popoff little round cover. You'll see it. There's also a screw inside the door handle (where you grab to close the door from the inside) also behind a little popoff cover.

3. After you take those screws out, the door panel is held on by pop-fasteners.

4. Work your fingers under the bottom of the panel and pull. When the bottom is loose, look up in there and see the fasters. This will help you understand how they work.

5. Carefully pull the rest of the fasteners off. Don't loose any! :Q

6. Lift the door panel off the track at the top of the door. You'll need to hold the panel w/one hand and "pull/extend" the door release (what you pull to open the door from the inside) to get the panel to fit over the handle. YOu'll understand when you see it.

I had a 98LX. :)

Get a repair manual at pepboys for 15 bux. It's worth it.

I think in most cars, door panels are held down by screws and snap retainers. After you take out all the screws, you pretty much have to just rip the door panel off. :Q

You might need to go back to the dealer to buy some extra retainers if you break any, but they're like a buck a piece.

Going by experience with a 2000 civic.....

There is a screw 'inside' the cup that houses the inside door handle.

There is also a screw inside of the 'armrest'.

There may/may not be a black plastic screw in the 'sailpanel'.

There are several 'pop fasteners' in the bottom and rear edge of the panel that
only needs to be popped out. Just run your fingers under the edge and slowly apply
pressure. They will pop out one by one.

You will need to remove the window crank/handle: Go to the base of the crank and push the
door panel in until you can see a u-shaped brass colored 'pin' at the base of the crank. Take
a flat-head screwdriver and gently pry on one of the ends until it pops loose. Keep an eye on
where it goes as they have a tendancy to fly off and bounce around. After that is off...the crank
should easily slide off.

You will need to angle the handle 'cup' until it slides through the panel
(may take a little patience :) ).

Lift the panel straight up to release it from the edge of the window channel.

That should do it for you or at least be pretty close.

When re-installing.....it may be easier to start with the window down.
