In April, Morgan Stanley Research estimated that gasoline purchases ate up 7.6 percent of median household pretax income, up from 5.3 percent two years ago. Wealthy households can more easily afford expensive fuel, so one of Honda's best weapons is customers with deep pockets.

Including its Acura luxury division, Honda has the most affluent U.S. customers of any automaker by far, according to a survey by J.D. Power and Associates. The income survey includes consumers who purchased new vehicles for the 12 months ending in April 2005.

The median household income of a Honda buyer is $87,907. Nissan customers had the second-highest median household income, followed by DaimlerChrysler, Toyota and Ford buyers. About $12,000 in household income separates Honda from GM, which placed last in the income category at $75,888.

It's the mentality of those wanting to get the most value for their dollar.

Even Jeff Bezo (Amazon CEO) drives an Accord regularly.

So the median household income of anyone who owns a car from the top 6 is 75k+

Not surprising, that's only 2 people making 37k/year..... I guess for honda it's two people making 44k/year.

So, the median income among people that can afford brand new cars *at all* seems to be somewhere north of $75k.*

* I'm pretty sure the above statement makes way to many assumptions to be accurate.

that is retarded, you can draw no conclusions from that study. in any respect, rank 2-5 are basically the same anyway. retarded study.

I dont understand why you guys are mentioning saving money as a reason why honda owners are up there. it's based on income, not net savings or something like that.
