Honda Civic (Updated)

OK, friend says he has a Honda Civic Manual 5 speed 1999 DX with 100,000 miles on it. One owner, single guy. I spoke with him, seems very nice. Asking $2900 for the car.

I hear this is a better deal. Go for it?

I have a 98 Cavalier 2.2L manual
It has about 105k miles on it and still runs great. Not very powerful but still a reliable fuel efficient car.

That being said, my next car will be something foreign.

Pile of crap on wheels. If you have low expectations of what a car should be this will fit your needs perfectly...provided it has been well maintained.

It will get you from point A to point B and be a reasonably decent car for the price.

You can get rather newer models for cheap. See if you can buy one from a rental car company. My ex-gf bought a 1.5 year old similar car with 8,000 miles for like $5000.

my sister had it's corporate cousin, the sunfire. that car's center of gravity was so far forward that when parallel parked it would crab walk sideways down the road rather than back into a space. it was a cheap, rude little car. it would stall out and die when warming up sometimes. and that car was still under warranty.

cavalier's are reliable but the interior will fall to bits and it's not very refined at all. $6k can get you a late 90's civic/corolla or a 2002 ford focus. excellent headroom and interior for its price.

$6000?

Did you check camrys, accords, civics, Mercedes C's, corrollas, any car that a lot of people bought and for a good reason.

I have a 2000 sunfire, which is just a re-badged Cav with different sheet metal. Runs beautifully.

Nate

 on the Civic, you can also find some Corollas for that price or less. My uncle drives a 1986 Corolla (not AE86) with about 180k on it, gas saver it is.

Thats a deal, except the DX trim is bare bones. No power locks, no power windows, no keyless. Its extremely lame but if you want a beater, go for it. Thats a decent price.

Think it'll last me if I take care of it past 250,000?

Fixed, and yes, absolutely.

Ask him if he's changed the timing belt yet, and if not, you'll have to get that done.

Agree with M4H, including his fix.
