Honda car dealers are crooks !

This is what I think from my experience with them in AZ.

1) When a bought a Honda back in 98, they wanted to give me a 28% interest rate saying that I don't have any good credit.
I contacted my bank and they said I have very good credit and don't know why they would say that. I ended up getting an interest rate of ~6 % or so. Apparently, I found out that they try to pull this on all people, particularly non caucasians.

2) Took my car to get serviced for my power window motor, they said it would be $280 total to fix (I made sure this included labor, etc). When I went to pick up my car, they tried charging me $375. I of course said no way and they are investigating it first thing in the morning tomorrow.

my advice: stay away from Honda dealers, at least in AZ

Honda seems to have an above-average amount of poor dealerships. But Toyota takes the cake for overall dealership dissatisfaction.

Always get written estimates and then reconcile them with the actual bill so they have to explain the unexpected charges.

even though my family owns a Honda Odyssey and I think its a great car-- we also had a horrible experience dealing with them this previous winter when buying it. They treated us like idiots and as a result i dont see myself ever buying a honda again, at least not from that dealership.

And the best dealership award goes to Nissan. I've never had anything but great experiences when dealing with them, the sales people, managers, and service department. Of the 4 nissan dealerships i've dealt with, they've all gone above and beyond to make sure i'm happy.

I dealt with three Nissan dealerships in southern Ontario and was extremely pleased with how each of them treated us. No pressure, no hidden costs thrown in at the last second, well-mannered staff and quick service. We needed a car immediately and said so; had the keys in our hands the next day.

Is it my imagination or is Nissan's popularity exploding upwards lately? The Sentra SE-R/Spec V, the Altima, the Maxima's always been up there and now the new Z car...

The Honda dealerships I've been to have always been nice to me.. :)

I hate BMW dealerships though.. I drove to one in my Civic and was looking around.. not one guy came to help. One week later, I drove my mom's Audi A6.. should have seen the guys jump out of their seats. :|

Nope, Nissan is definitely on the rise ... my next car might be a Maxima as long as they don't screw it up like Honda did with the 03 Accord.

Is RWD going to be standard on all new Maxima's? I don't need/want RWD, just want the Maxima to continue it's "sports sedan" tradition with a little Camry and Accord mixed in.

Yeah but I don't think it's any different than any other dealership.

Was buying a car for my little brother a couple of weeks ago. Was at a dealership in Louisiana, and we are TX residents (therefore get charged TX tax, which is less).

We were buying someone else's car from here, and they were buying a new one from down there. So we all drove down there in her car, and she would get her new car, while Honda would certify my bro's car (her old one) and we'd drive back. When we were signing the papers we were charged for LA tax and not TX. We asked why when we specifically told them we were from TX. They said they would fix it. We asked if the girl buying the new one was charged LA or TX tax (she wasn't too up to speed on buying cars) and he said "gee I forgot with them as well". We asked if he wanted us to tell her or if he was going to do it. He walked over and got her the difference.

Shafty bastards. :|

no its not. there were rumors of it for a while, but i think Nissan said that they'll only be offering RWD on the Infinity line of cars. (other than the Z) The next gen maxima is supposted to have about 275~285hp though. its going to rock.

Honda should be calling all buyers with a survey on experience. This determines every Honda dealers bonus. Try to find out their number and call!

it really depends on which dealership/salesperson you're dealing with. I had VERY bad experience with a VW dealer in my area, i just wanted to test drive a golf and that dude was dissing other brand like there is no tomorrow and treating us as idiots. not gonna mention any names though.

The worst honda dealership i dealt with is the honda dealership from fremont automall (or something), it was 2000 and we were negotiating for a new accord EX, the MSRP was 22000 or something and the sticker price (their sticker) was 28000 without any accessories. i didn't even know why we bothered to negotiate but they gave us 19700 as the final price, it wasn't that bad but we were like f*** it since it wasted us like 3 or 4 hours.

the nissan dealership here has nice service though, so do the Honda dealership (they're under the same group i think)

TranceNation,
Just to let you know here in Michigan a shop cannot charge more than 10% over the written estimate without approval from the customer, written or oral. I would check with your DMV and find out what the law is. Plus they should have provided you with a written estimate which you sign to approve the work, if not then you may have another leg to stand on.

As a shop/business owner in this field I know quite a bit about this. I always have a customer sign the work order before any diagnosis or repair work is preformed. It protect me and my customer from any misunderstanding.

Aren't all dealerships?

At the Toyota dealership where I bought my Nissan Sentra (hehe, was originally looking at a Corolla on the lot), the sales guy didn't give me much sales pressure.
But when it came towards the end, the manager tried to get me to buy their extended warranty, and was very rude about it as well.
They also conveniently left out my $100 deposit when it was time to finish the numbers and paper work :|
