Just saw a Honda commercial...for a robot! He strolls out of the garage, looking like a midget astronaut. I kept waiting for the punch line, the SUV to roll out, but no.....the commercial is for the robot! Anyone else heard of this?

Asimo is actually quite really, and very interesting.. considering all the things hes capable of..

IE, the commercial.. He wakes himself up, opens the grage door, walks out, and grabs the newspaper. He is also capable of recognizing people, and waving to them.. (thats all I know for now, but hes much more feature rich then that..)

u just heard of him now? heh what hole have u been in all this time:)

its a pretty kewl robot, hondas been refining the current one for a while, i think its smaller and stuff now. its advanced at how it uses a natural walk, not a robot shuffle. walking is not easy, just ask a robotics engineer or something:) so much balancing involved.

i think when it first came out they made it do a simple dance heh, so cheesy.

honda does some neat stuff.

I remember watching about it on the Discovery channel like in '97.

BTW, since its a Honda made machine, it gets 40 MPG;)

Seriously, this is the first I've heard of it....not even here in ATOT!!!!

Wow... the movies of it walking are actually kind of eerie (sp?). Almost human in a way.

So how much do one of these things cost anyway ?:D

OK, I found sort of an answer from forbes.com:

"But leasing one is not cheap: about $150,000 a month. "

:Q

A bit out of my price range :p

As I recall, the big deal with that robot is that its motion very closely resembles human motions. Ok, so that was already stated. It does stairs as well. I think it rang either the opening or closing bell at the NY Stock Exchanged recently, walking down the stairs to the platform. Pretty neat stuff.

The way it moves is sooo eerie. The first few times I saw the commercial, I swore it had to be CGI. My brain just can't register the fact that a machine can move so fluidly. It really is amazing. I'd love to see one in action in person. :)
