Does any one here own a newer Accord? If so, how much room is there in the drivers seat? I am 6'5" and do not want to waste my time driving to the dealership if there clearly is no hope. Also I am intrested in peoples opinions of the Accord, I like the 2 door with the I4 LX. Anyone have experience with this engine? W

Check it out. Depends what you're used to. My 6,3" father used to drive a subaru justy. He looked dumb as hell but he didn't mind. On the other hand some people on this board shorter than you may say an accord doesn't fit them...If you're used to small imports you'll likely be ok, otherwise no :)

Not sure on accords but VW's have seats that lower up and down.

I'm 6'2"-3" and I'm not at all comfortable in them, but I'm used to driving roomier vechicles, its more about preferences than dimensions but I can say you wont have alot of room to spare :)

You can always stick your head out the window while driving...

BTW, a friend owns a 4 door 4 cylinder EX (same engine) and it runs fine....adequate power

Well, I have to say one thing: don't get a sunroof if you want maximum headroom. I've had a chance to sit in the newer Accords at the Detroit Auto Show, and at 6'0" I had plenty of room. The only way to tell is to sit in one yourself though.

I'm only 5'10", and there was a lot of room for the seat to go back, but not 7 inches, so you need to check it out yourself.

The engine is nice. It's very smooth and free revving. I've only driven the 5 speed manual, but I've heard the automatic is fine too. Like most four cylinders, there's not much power under 2000 RPM, but V-TEC helps make the most of what 2.3 liters can offer. I'm not sure anymore, but I think the V-TEC switches over at around 4000-4500 RPM on this engine. Acceleration is very good up there, it's a little loud for some people, but I think the engine sounds nice. I haven't heard of any dependability issues with Honda's V-TEC, unlike some other VVT systems. You can't get better mileage in a mid-size. My friend's wife is a very tame driver, she usually got 30 MPG in mixed driving. My friend only gets 25-28, but he kicks the V-TEC in a lot.

I am 6'4" and found there was adequate room in my '98 Accord EX V-6 sedan. That car had power seats, which may or may not impact on overall headroom, and obviously it was a sedan, which probably had some effect as well.

I disliked the car for other reasons, but it was not cramped inside. My new Maxima has much more space, but is obviously quite different from an I-4 LX Accord coupe in any number of ways, so it is not a fair comparison.

6'3+", '92 Accord. Seems fine to me, although I have the seat all the way back and leaned back probably more than most (no, not low rider leaned back, but more than most).

<< TEE, how do you like your Maxima? I was also considering one. >>

I love it! Actually I just took it for its first longish trip last weekend, down to Austin TX (I live near Oklahoma City). Unlike my Accord (and, before that, my '99 Integra GS-R, it was not at all fatiguing and I felt totally fresh even after 6-7 hours in the car at a stretch.

The Max has long been regarded as one of the best tall-guy cars. My dad is also 6'4" but has rather short legs and a long torso, so he cannot sit comfortably in most cars, up to and including many $30-40K sedans. He has a '97 Max and loves it.

FYI, I have a 2001 Max SE in Sterling Mist (a grayish silver) with gray leather, a 5-speed, the Comfort and Convenience package (which includes 17" wheels and other stuff), and the wonderful Bose stereo. I bought it in January for around $25K (tough to fix an exact sale price since I traded in the dreaded Accord!). The ONLY thing I would do differently if I could do it over is that I would get the black interior, as the light-gray carpet and floor mats show dirt rather too well.

Pluses as compared to an Accord:

-- Larger, more spacious interior - the ONLY car I have ever owned, and the only one I remember having driven, in which I do not slide the seat all the way back

-- Seemingly superior build quality (I was VERY disappointed with my Accord in this regard; I think their quality is worse since they started building most cars in the U.S.) and overall a much more substantial feel in the switchgear, the sounds of the doors closing, etc.

-- Available 5-speed with V-6 (I disliked having an auto with the Accord, though its engine was nice, and comparable, though not quite as nice as, the Max's; the Max's 5-speed is, ironically, not as nice as most of the Honda ones I have used, but gets the job done fine)

-- Much less wind noise - the Accord was surprisingly noisy

-- MUCH better-weighted steering and resistance to nose dive and body roll

-- Much better stereo if you go with the (probably overpriced but still great) Bose package

-- 17" wheels with the C&C package look great

-- Trunk is ENORMOUS and swallows my 62 cm road bike without folding the seat down

-- Automatic headlights are very handy

-- Seats provide markedly better lateral support and overall comfort than the Accord's flat, bench-like buckets

Minuses:

-- Smoked SE taillights look weird on lighter-colored models (like mine - sigh . . .)

-- More expensive

-- Poorer resale

-- Some minor touches were nicer on the Accord (the change bin and sunglass holder come to mind)

P.S.: I have a sunroof on my Max and still have plenty of headroom - your mileage may vary.

you can put the seat way back and it will help, i test drove a coupe in aug last year. the "tilt" wheel is missing two upward locks that my taurus has, and i drive with one of those, so the wheel was close to my knees. 6'0" btw.
