so the check engine light on my 2000 accord LX sedan goes on today. then i notice acceleration around the VTEC RPM range starts to cut out, and even jumps rapidly back and forth like it wants me to shift, even though its an automatic. how much do you think it will cost? and i had the 6 year warranty on it. does that take care of that problem?

warranty should cover it

your cost = $0 dollars, you'll be without a car tho unless they offer free loaners.

How about consulting a mechanic because it's obvious you don't know what in the hell is going on. And why in the hell are you in RPM ranges that high (high enough to have the VTEC kick in?)??

Oh god forbid he actually uses the rev range for what it was meant to do :p

Well, seeing that it's an automatic, that's what alarms me.

If it's a V6, your transmission is toast. It's a known problem with 6th gen accords, there were batches of bad trannies. The good thing is Honda gave all 2000-2001 accords an extended warranty on the auto trannies for 7 yrs/100k miles. You can take it to a dealer and get it fixed. If you want to read more, visit accordv6.com and do a search on the forums.

It's difficult to come up with a cost estimate without knowing what the problem is.

Take it to a mechanic and get the problem diagnosed. THEN ask how much it should cost.

its an I4, no V6. anyways, i did get that extended warranty thing for the tranny in the mail, although i left it in a different city right now so im not sure on the details. i did get a 6 year warranty from the regular 3 year when i bought the car. took it to the honda dealership but wont have time to check it out till monday. he said it will be ok to drive, except i wont accelerate as fast as i normally do.

yeah, sounds like a tranny problem. once they replace it they'll offer you a 100k warranty on it.
