Well i'm getting good game play from my Athlon 2500+ Geforce FX5900 128Mb 1GB PC3200 but it does slow down when the battles get big and when i say big i mean like 30 Battle Cruisers 18 Destroyers and lots of other units all flying around doing stuff

Do you think this is slowing down because the Video card has reached its limit or the CPU?

Ive tested with a 2400+ and can see how the Barton core with extra Cache runs Homeworld2 better then a Tbred 2400+ with only 256k even though the 2500+ is clocked at 167MHz Slower ....

I want this game too run at its best even at the extream ... I can wait a few months for new hardware too come out and at the moment i'm looking too get one of those AMD Athlon64 CPU's with 1mb L2 cache... but it may be the vid card needing replacing not CPU.

I just want those Super massive Spastic battles ! 1000 Unites + too run good :) ... hehe ... stupid computers are not fast enough.

does not HW2 use (force) DX 9.0?

If So

DX 9.x + GF 5900 = not very fast

Then again I have been out of the nvidia game for awhile , do you have the newest drivers for that card?

how about your memory 512MB or 1024MB?

have you tried different drivers? i know i was having problems until i switched to the 45.03 drivers...the newer ones have problems with shadows, which homeworld uses a lot of

All drivers everything is up too date ... the game runs fine but its only when i get into massive battles does it slow down
the game does use DX9 but from what ive seen it doesnt use enough shaders too impact the videocards poor DX9 support. well i hope not ...
Because its going to be cheaper to replace the CPU and board then it will be the Vidcard

As for memory i stated i am using 1GB of DDR 3200

I'm running an ATI 9700 Pro... no slows here with the HW2 Demo. Maybe once Nvidia gets some drivers out there that'll run Half Life 2 it'll fix your issues too. For the $$$'s spent I'd be talking to them.........

if your drivers are up to date then you're not using the 45.03 drivers.

go to nvidia's page and find the driver archive. download the older drivers...it worked for me.
the old drivers work with no problems whereas the new ones crash homeworld2 and make it run slow.

strange stuff you would think new drivers would be better !! :) .... but cool thanx for the advice ... i have crashed a few times too !!! now i know why but instead of going back to older drivers i think i'll download the Beta 50.75 drivers for better performance.

no, get the older drivers. i dont recommend the beta drivers...because...they're beta.

the problems you're having are related to shadows, and the newer drivers have "fixes" for shadow rendering...or something like that...i dont know the specifics.
all i know is you're gonna have problems with any of the drivers that have those fixes.

most of my friends are using the 45.03 drivers because they are the last and most stable set of drivers before nvidia started doing these fix things. i'm not an expert and i could be wrong. but i defenitely know homeworld2 hasn't crashed or run slowly on my machine since i started using the 45.03 drivers.

i run the game at 1280xblah (whatever that other dimension is...it's not 1024) and it runs great...and in only have a gf4 ti4200 (oc'd though)
