Homeworld won't recognise sound card??

Hey guys,

I'm trying to install homeworld and each time I do it says Homeworld requires a 16-bit sound device and then quits the installation program. I have Win XP and SB Live. I downloaded the new drivers, installed them without a hitch. I can play mp3s and movies fine on my computer. no real sound issues up till now? any ideas?
