So, they got the old gang from Relic to redo the cinematic scenes, and have added a new gfx engine and some kind of a lobby system for MP games...

I sure hope they don't price this too high. Should be around $15.

I heard about this earlier shortly after they got the rights to it. The only thing Im a little bummed about is the added multilayer, not sure how well that will work out.

Keeping and eye on this.

Wheeeeee! Though I don't care for Collector's Editions. Hopefully the standard edition is reasonably priced.

My favorite game of all time. I just started a new campaign last week and am already getting my butt kicked! I have forgotten so much ... its been years since I played.

Looking forward to this to come to fruition. Hope that they create as many new single player campaigns as possible. The original was priceless.

I missed Homeworld when it came out and would love to buy this, but at the same time I really don't want to support Randy Pitchford and GearBox.

I'll probably buy it.

I think Homeworld is one game I wouldn't mind if a modern version came out that was an exact duplicate of gameplay and story, but with Crysis level graphics (I can dream ?) and modern UI/oldschool key mapping.

I spent the better part of today playing Wizardry 7 on Steam. I'm liking this gaming trend; old masterpieces ported for today's hardware and operating systems. Homeworld would be a great addition.

YES.

Homeworld was awesome. I think I was slightly too young to appreciate it (discovered it in 4th/5th grade, but I remember replaying the campaign in college and finding it to be incredibly good and HARD.

I will buy this in a heart beat.

I pretty much expected that something legal would have prevented its inclusion here, given its origin from a different studio, but was just wondering.

Would be neat if the originals would at least show up on GOG -- physical copies of Cataclysm are starting to get pricier now. I picked one up for about $20 a while back.

I think I'm the only person in the world who didn't like Homeworld. It was a first day buy for me back when it came out. The gameplay was fantastic. The graphics were mesmerizing.

BUT:

It was obviously and tragically unfinished. The game had hints and allusions to events that actually never occurred. It was very short and the ending was anti-climactic. After you're done, you were treated to concept art for all the things they wanted to include in the story line but never got around to finishing. I suppose it's sideways praise that I wanted more at the end, but I remember getting to the last mission and saying, huh? what? this can't be the end. . .

Oh, and FFS, why didn't the bad guys just build a fleet of junkyard dogs? That mission made me rage.

According to what little I've read, Gearbox does indeed own the rights to Homeworld Cataclysm.

The problem is that sometime between 2002 when Rockstar acquired Barking Dog and when Gearbox contacted them for the source code it was "lost". The current theories among fans are that the drive containing the code failed or was accidentally discarded. They also don't have access to the original tools so reverse engineering it is much more difficult and probably in Gearbox's eyes not worth the effort.

As far as I can tell:

Sierra owned the rights to HW Cata, a game developed by Barking Dog Studios in 2000
Barking Dog was acquired by Rockstar in 2002 and retained the original Cata source code
In 2007 THQ acquired Sierra
In 2013 Gearbox acquired Homeworld Franchise IP rights from THQ including Cata

At some point between 2002 and 2013 the original Cataclysm source code was lost/misplaced thus its not getting remastered.
