I wrote Homepna.org and asked when HPNA 3.0 products would arrive. Here is the response. Seems like a dangerously long time to wait in this market, but if it can deliver on its promised 100mb speed maybe it will work out.

"We have not yet made any public announcement regarding anticipated delivery of HPNA 3.0 products, since the internal development process is still under way.

"After an official technology selection, initial trial units must be manufactured and extensively field tested (minimum 500 homes) prior to
ratification. So, I would expect that we are probably looking at a year minimum before we would see any 3.0 products available to consumers.

"And yes...they will be backward compatible with 2.0 products, so everything sold today and for the next year will have good "investment protection" for the future.

Thanks for the good info!

Sure. You must have stock in wireless, huh? :)

Personally, I like HPNA -- unless you've got a laptop, I think it is pretty competitive with wireless -- it is about as fast or faster and I find it more reliable. And, hpna has gotten a lot cheaper. But the market really seems to have gone over to wireless now. I have a feeling that it is just a matter of time till there are a few major security crises related to wireless, and it'll be interesting to see what happens then. Either everybody will crack down on security or people will search for alternatives.
