FOr whatever reason whenever I try to go to google.com I get redirected to google.co.uk I don't understand why this is. It just started happening, at least I can't think of anything that was done recently that could effect this.

I tried running some run of the mill spyware app, such as spybot and adaware but it didn't seem to change anything. Any idea?

Sounds like a botnet working on your machine. Go here: http://free.grisoft.com/ and download AVG Free, AVG Anti-Spyware and AVG Anti-Rootkit. All 3 are download-able from the left side of the page. Also, do you have a good firewall? If not, install the free version of ZoneAlarm and disable Windows firewall...

Maybe it thinks you're in the UK? DNS servers maybe? That one file that changes where that url or ip address leads. I don't remember what it's called.

unlikely. ChAoTiCpInOy is correct. my machine is clean. yet every time i try to go to google.com, it'll take me instead to google.co.il. does it really matter that much though?

Squirrels,

I think spyware's a possibility, that's why I gave you the Grisoft site to try those programs to see if there is any malware doing that... if you haven't gone there yet, give it a try. If you don't like those programs you can always uninstall.

Maybe this is a better chance... I got this from another form, it may work for you:
_______________________________________________________________________
Type about:config into your browser address bar. Scroll down to keyword.URL and right click it and click on modify. Copy and paste this string into the field in the popup.

http://www.google.com/search?i...id=navclient&gfns=1&q=

This restores Firefox to Googles "I'm Feeling Lucky" search, which automatically goes to the most relevant page in search.

Maybe this will get you out of the UK... Notice that this fix is when you type a location into the address bar looking for a Google response. I don't know whether it will change Google directly, but give it a try. It could work.

I tried the AVG software and it found nothing, and this continues to happen. It's actually kind of driving me crazy. Whenever I type in something it thinks I'm looking for the UK local item, it basically gives me bad searches all the time. And it does seem to effect performance too, though that can be in my head. Yeah for some reason it thinks I'm in the UK I have no idea why this is. ANy ideas people, if I bounce my router, do you think that would help?

Edit: When I typed in config: I got this website instead, any thoughts?

Squirrels,

Well, I guess it's noy malware...

Did you type config or about:config in the Firefox browser bar? You want the second version. That will give you a very long list of Firefox preferences and then TYPE that url I gave you above into the filter box... that will set your Google to the single choice when you type what you're looking for into the browser's address bar.

We may have a word problem here. Did you know you can type anything you want into the Firefox address bar - and it will direct you to Google? That's what this will do - give you a single Google selection, not 10 or 20 or 50... I though maybe it would change your Google from UK to U.S.

Can't hurt to try it...

hmm, tried it, but it still didn't work. Thanks for the help though. This little thing is driving me crazy, and it's so strange. Whenever i use the google toolbar in the browser it looks at google.co.uk as well.

Squirrels,

You could try re-installing your browser... It has to be a setting. If that doesn't work, it's in your registry and then you could search there for Google keys, try to find one with UK in it.
