I went to cook something on my electric stove tonight (one of those newer ones with the single piece glass-like top) and realized the whole top is cracked. Don't know why and don't know when it happened. I've lived in my apartment for three years and I know it wasn't like that when I moved in, so probably happened sometime recently, and was caused by me.

I rent of course - is this a landlord thing or a me thing? Also, is it dangerous? Things still look like they are in one piece but if you press down slightly it shows a web of cracks.

Is this something that can be replaced or do I/my landlord have to buy a whole new stove?

Check with the landlord after you check with you renters insurance company.

I would not use it anymore.

It probably depends on whether the landlord decides to call it "normal wear and tear" or "damage by tenant".

yeah, i think this is one of those gray areas. i think mine would have believed me if i told them i didn't intentionally cause it and i think they would probably replace it for me. but, ymmv. good luck OP!

check your lease.

in my last apartment, my lease had a stipulation that after 3 months, any repair costs to owned-provided appliances (stove, fridge) would be split 50/50
