My in-laws have been with State Farm for 30 years with no problems. I've been with State Farm for 7 years and have found their rates suprisingly low.

Have you made any claims though in your 7 years with them?

No homeowner's claims. On the auto side I've had two accidents-- one with $3,000 in damages, and the other with $45,000 in damages. In both cases I had a check the same day the adjust declared the vehicles a total loss.
My father in law has had more accidents than I care to remember, as well as a few small howeowners claims, with no neglible effect.

I have auto, homeowners and life insurance with USAA. In fact, we financed my wife's car through them as well. Great company but you must be military or family of military to qualify. My Father-In-Law was an Officer in the Air Force so that is how I came to be insured by them.

look for a local agent... I personally have Allstateand have been very happy with them.
anyways, get a few quotes from local agents in your area. Go in and talk with them about coverages you want/need. Not all home insurance policies are created equal.
Make sure to get REPLACEMENT COST on dwelling and contents.

Why add another layer to the mix with a local agent? Usually their goal is sales and profit, not your best interest. In this day and age there's no reason to use a local agent.
