homemade Etching on plexiglass (acrylic)

hey guys has anyone ever tried to get a sandblasting effect on plexiglass?

mhy idea was to print and cout otu a stencil using transparency film and then using a fine sand paper sand in the cut out area on the acrylic to produce an effect that should look like it has been sandblasted

any thoughts?

Umm, it would work but it would be hard if you had any smaller detailed areas to sand. Seems like it would be a lot of work too.

Probably won't look as neat as if it were sandblasted, but it sounds like a good idea. If you do try it, let us know how it works.

There's a semi-transparent "paint" made by Rustoleum called "Frosted Glass" that might be easier for your application.

I've tried it using the stencil method you were talking about, and it came out well on plastic! This stuff is very uniform in coverage, and you can use multiple coats for different levels of opacity.

hmmmm

i have a spare piece of plexi glass lying around so i'll try both methods.. i'll let you kno how it goes
