Yeah. That's right. They confiscate contraband in cases of trademark infringement. In a lingerie store. In Kansas City.

Consider that, ladies and gentlemen. A department created to supposedly help keep Americans safe on our own soil has now managed to move their mandate to inforcing trademark infringement complaints. Previously a domain reserved for the FBI, our 'Homeland Security' Department has so LITTLE to do that they are expanding their mandate.

Job well done, Federal Government. Job well done.

Fighting cartels, criminals, and illegals is a risky business. It's inevitable as government agencies metastasize that they decide they don't really want to do what the original intent of their agency was and find something safer to engage in. When you have a monopoly of force it's not difficult to change your mission.

As far as I know, that's one of the jobs of the US Customs service - seizing counterfeit merchandise (if it is trademarked) as it tries to enter the US.

secures the homeland duh!

basically spies on everyone including citizens and when something actually happens they say they need more power than what is already given to them. cause if they had it to begin with none of this shit would have happened.

To be honest I never liked the creation of a Homeland anything to begin with from the start.

Sounded too much like something the Nazis or Stalin era governments would have done, and is not really needed.

DHS enforces title 18 US code, same as the FBI and most other federal LE agencies. They essentially take cases that are too low profile or unimportant for FBI involvement. They routinely cross swords with the DEA and ATF over drug and gun busts, because those are easily quantifiable, highly publicized performance metrics.

Being angry at a govt. department for doing their job. Interesting point of view

"The ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) directorate is a critical asset in the ICE mission, responsible for investigating a wide range of domestic and international activities arising from the illegal movement of people and goods into, within and out of the United States.

HSI has broad legal authority to enforce over 400 federal statues and uses this authority to investigate all types of smuggling and cross-border criminal activity, to include: financial crimes, bulk cash smuggling, human smuggling and trafficking, commercial fraud and intellectual property rights, cybercrimes and the exploitation of children, narcotics smuggling and trafficking, immigration and document fraud, human rights violations, transnational gang activity, and weapons smuggling and export enforcement. ICE special agents conduct investigations aimed at protecting critical infrastructure industries that are vulnerable to sabotage, attack or exploitation."

Read Wikipedia on how the Department of Homeland Security was sold to the US citizens.

To quote:
The mission of the Office will be to develop and coordinate the implementation of a comprehensive national strategy to secure the United States from terrorist threats or attacks. The Office will coordinate the executive branch's efforts to detect, prepare for, prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks within the United States.

Goodness. How that mission has changed.

In general, I agree. The reason they were ostensibly created was because information was not being shared between government agencies. The intelligence community was in total panic over the idea of one central data base. So, in steps homeland security to create another level of bureaucracy and thus provide more opportunities to hide (I mean safeguard) national security issues.
