well that was a fvcked up brew session. I had my grains in a grain bag and was going to do a partial mash for a 10 gallon batch of IPA. Had my flame too high and the bottom of the grain bag scorched to the bottom of the pan. This is not good because I don't have the kind of equipment i need to sparge out 9 pounds of malt. I kludged together a system though, dirtying up both brew pots and both of my wifes stock pots and two colanders. 5 hours later I am crawling into bed. Jeeeessus that better be some good beer. Basically ended up doing an all grain batch without any of the equipment.

6# pale malt (fermentables)
2# carapils (body, head retention)
1# Special B Belgium roast (color, flavor, fermentables)
MASHED at 155 F for 90 minutes.
Sparged with a Rube Goldberg machine.

6.5 # light LME

1 ounce Magnum (13.5% alpha) @60
1 ounce Cluster (7%) @60
1 ounce K Goldings (4.5%) @ 16 minutes
1 ounce K Goldings @ 8 minutes
1 ounce Cascade @ flame out

I was too tired to chill the wort so i just set it down in the basement and dealt with it this morning. Pitched White Labs London Ale yeast.

OG was 1.052
Expected alcolhol will be about 5.5%

Update:

Kegged and Carbonated. Good stuff...highly drinkable. :D

What is the OG number? Not like its going to have any impact on me, but thats good that it turned out well. I hate wasted efforts.

It takes a month to get your beer finished? I don't think I could wait that long.

5 ounces of hops? That must be a very bitter IPA, do you have an estimated IBU for it? Sounds tasty though :)

 cheers

10 gallon batch....so the hops are in proportion/style guidelines.

oops, my bad, I didn't read carefully and assumed it was a 5 gallon batch. 5 oz in 10 gallons is much more palatable :)
