I just transferred a batch of stout into the second fermentor myself. I will probably bottle it sometime next week. I want to buy some kegs so I can brew more often I hate cleaning bottles all the time, especially when its over a hundred bottles for 2-3 batches.

Where did you buy the kegs and and taps for them?

Looks like a good time to slap a 2x6 collar on that cooler and mount some taps on it. I finally did it to mine and I love it. Just be sure to take the hinge off of the freezer part not the lid. I screwed up and it took me forever to get them lined back up right.

I got my initial kegging system (co2 tank, regulator, 1 keg, hoses, quick relief valves, etc...) from Brewer's Discount. I would definitely recommend this place.

I have sense then added 8 or 9 kegs which I have purchases from the Green Bay Rackers at $7-10 each. I think the going rate is about $15-20.

How long does homebrewed beer stay good for?

indefinitely, but in general the stronger the beer, the better it will age. Some beers are best consumed starting at 1 month. Some, like barley wines and belgiums, will get better for years to come.

Yeah I do need to do that, but I may not keep this particular cooler much longer, and I might end up buildign a little basement bar too.

any idea how much co2 taps cost?

a complete system will run you about $160, $20 for the keg, $60 for the co2 tank, 50$ for the regulator, 30$ for miscellanious.

I'm thinking about getting into home brewing. I get a William's Brewing catalog every now and then, and was thinking about their $99 starter kit. What do you all think of it? Good idea for a beginner?

i don't think i would recommend that one because
1) seems a bit high for what you get
2) doesn't include a glass carboy. they want you to use a plastic bucket for the entire fermentation, which is not ideal because you can pick up off flavors from the trub that acculates during the first week of fermentation and the plastic is permeable to oxygen which can and will oxidize your beer, producing a cardboard flavor.

look at htese other sites for comparison:

http://www.austinhomebrew.com/...x.php?cPath=178_358_52

both of these, and williams too, have good reputations.
