I planted some hop rhizomes over the weekend. Right now, they are in some 6" buckets, but I expect to transplant them soon to a more permanent location. I hope to get enough cones in August to use as flavoring hops for a few batches.

By the way, my inventory of homebrew rests at 27 gallons of 4 different beers on tap, and another 15 gallons of 2 different beers in secondary. Should be a good summer! :D:beer:

Excellent!

What kind of conditions do hops need to grow decently? I'm a bit of a green thumb and something new in the garden is always good.:D

I planted one Cascade, and one K. Goldings.

Hop flavor profiles, like wine grapes, are dependent on environmental conditions as well as plant genetics. Hops as a rule lilke HOT SUNNY ENVIRONMENTS. They can grow quite aggressively, and will produce cones only on the highest, longest vines.

Here is a pretty good on-line resource.

I have heard from a few people that weren't successful at harvesting cones, and I suspect its due to not enough sun.
