Hey all, question about my homebuilt DVR machine...

When recording or watching TV, my computer freezes irrecoverably (have to hard-boot) or bluescreens within about 3 minutes. Very frustrating. I have tried this with Windows Vista Ultimate as well as with XP Media Center and the software that came bundled with the tuner card.

Specs are:

Hauppauge HVR 1800
Sapphire Crossfire 480 Advantage
Dual core AMD Athlon Toledo 4800
4GB ram
160 gb HDD with 80% available space
ATI Radeon x1900xtx

I have tried recording to two different drives with the same result. Both with well over 100GB free space.

Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated!

I would run your system through some stress testing to see if it reboots from that. Prime95 for 12-24 hours should be enough to test the CPU and RAM, and 3DMark2001 while looping for 12-24 hours should stress the video card pretty well. If it reboots for either or both of those, then you have stability/overheating issues. If it passes the stress tests, then I second masteryoda's recommendation.
