I am looking for some help because, for some reason, I cannot enable streaming from my home desktop to my laptop for movies and am just a bit frustrated after 3 consec days...

Background

Desktop is i7/6Gb/N460GTX/Crucial C300 system and is running wireless from my main router.
The router is a D-Link DIR-655N in 20/40 scan auto at 811n;
The adapter to my deskptop is a Belkin N300 and gives me perfect range and remains at 300Mbts continuously.
The laptop is an Acer 11.6 inch with an Intel 5100 inside. It is constantly over 100Mbts and strength is great.
I can set up a home network and workgroup no prob.
I can get the laptop to see the movies.
When I click to play on WMP, they take about 6 min to start and are very choppy.

Any thoughts at all would help. This issue has enough priority for me to tab this in my browser.

Sounds like wireless interference. And having the desktop and receiver both on wireless is just asking for problems. The source of the video needs to be wired so try that at first and change wireless channels. The speed the wireless connects at and any signal strength meter aren't very good indicators of interference or good signal to noise, but poor performance sure is an indicator.

Was hoping not to hear the 'wired' portion as my main system is in an upstairs office and there is abs no way to wire it. I was hoping someone would jump in and say they have a similar setup and it works.

I hoped because I am getting such good results in network performance it would negate the need for a hard line.

Thanks for letting me take value in something that I didnt want to believe.

Would a USB N adapter lessen the chance compared to a PCI installed adapter even thought they both will be at 300MBps?? Is there going to be a bottleneck through a USB wifi setup?

Problem solved.... Found an amazing freeware program called Connectify which has NO advertising whatsoever and turnes your system into a wifi hotspot inclusive of all area network mappings. I would DEFINITELY recommend anyone looking at similar check it out.

The problem I had was having was getting a movie play on my tv (main floor) from the desktop (upstairs). Now Connectify created a an effective workgroup so that, off my laptop in the living room I can play movies from the desktop upstairs. Its then streamed wirelessly from my laptop (on my lap in the chair) to the BT HDMI hub which streams it through my stereo and onto the big screen.

Gotta like it!
