@home to @rogers doesnt' work!

To all the Toronto people using rogers@home! HELP!!!! I can't seem to get my email account going from dalurker28@home.com to dalurker28@rogers.com. It appears to be the problem that i can't locate the host pop and smtp. Everytime it tries to find pop, it gives me a error, saying
" The host 'pop' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account 'pop', server: 'pop', protocal POP3, Port 110, Sercure(SSL):No, Socket Error: 11001, Error NUmber: 0x800CCC0D "

I'm running a Clarkconnect 1.0.81 router on a Pentium 200, and was wondering whether that's the problem. I've tried by passing the router, and i can't seem to get an IP, and it's frustrating me to no ends! any help would be great.

Are you sure you have the correct pop3 & smtp server names?

Here in Vancouver, when I switched from my @home.com address to @shaw.ca address, they switched the mail servers names as well...

Yup, i'm sure the server name's are pop and smtp. Some of my friends in other areas (North York) seem to be able to log onto them, but some of my other friends can't (same area). It's really weird. Im' up in Scarborough though.

Check On "My outgoing server requires authentication"

Tools -> Accounts -> pop account --> Properties -> Server

Just saw this on the Rogers TV channel.

Actually, the servers names are not "pop3" and "smtp" - They actually have a fully-qualified domain name. For example, they might (might!) have been called "pop3.vco.home.com". When you try to resolve them by their short name "pop3", your computer automatically appends the DNS information set on your local computer. If your computer is in the DNS zone "vco.home.com", the computer would add that to the short name and come up with "pop3.vco.home.com" and be able to find it.

If your ISP has just changed domain names, chances are they changed the names of their servers, too. So, what used to be called "pop3.vco.home.com" is now called "pop3.rogers.com". Yet, your computer still has the old DNS settings and is having problems.

Short answer - Check to make sure your DNS zone has changed as your ISP did.

Sorry G, you would be normally 100% right, but this situation is a bit different.

Rogers has done some major changes due to the fact that @home is bankrupt. Here's the instructions on how DaLuker28 should setup his e-mail client.

Rogers.com Support Link -- In there you will see the proper incoming and outgoing mail server settings.

Been there, done that. I've gone through those instructios 10-20 times (literally), and still no go! AHH! i've even watched the stupid tutorial on roger tv, (really moronic i might add). I've tried calling them, but the lines always busy (go figure?) and it's driving me nutz. If anybody has a solution, that'd be great, if not, not too big a problem for me (but not for my dad, uh oh). Thx guys

Here, I just e-mailed you some more instructions.

MUHAHAHAHAHAHH! Just kiddin! No e-mail eh? (I crack myself up too much!) 😀

Remove ALL of your @home and @rogers accounts and re-create them as instructed. It fixes most problems ah-too-often.

Try and login via their apparent new WebMail.

Good luck!

Can you go to a command line and ping the server names EXACTLY as you entered them in your mail setup? IE, does "ping pop" and "ping smtp" respond back or do they give you an error message that it couldn't find the host? If you get the error, then you've got a DNS issue. If it pings as normal, it's probably some kind of configuration or password issue.
