Home Theatre people ... please i need some opinions!

No Lifer

the only catch is that this thing is open box at Best Buy. I went there this morning and when I saw that price, I had to look again because I didn't believe it.

i was almost going to buy the 46" version of this TV at sears today for $2,699 with %10 off, which comes out to about $2500 after taxes, not too bad.

since this is an open box item, should I be skepitcal about buying it? my brother has a pickup truck so I can haul it out of the store no problem, so that is not a big deal at all. i have been doing some research recently and the price range I'm really looking to spend is about $2500, and this fits it perfectly.

this tv is the HD3 and not HD2+, correct? is this a major downside to this TV or should I go ahead and just grab it. my main uses for this thing are going to be playing xbox and watching dvds, not too much of a TV watcher here. my viewing distance will be about 10 feet, so i'm thinking 50" might be a little too big, but then again I like my screens big

so what should I do? this is kind of in the perfect price range but I am a little skeptical about it just because its open box, and its also best buy (i used to work there and also have had some bad experiences there, not to mention heard a buncha horror stories). but what would you guys do in my place? i would like any feedback, thanks

according to the research i've been doing, with DLP's you don't have to worry about burnin at all.

only CRT projection tvs have the burnin prolbem since this is a dlp thier is no problem with burnin. the only downside of dlp is replacing the bulb every year to 2 years

Seems like a great deal. Circuit City is currently offering this set at a sale price of $2,849.00. The HLP series is the latest (or 3rd) generation of this chipset - and is the one to get.

Good luck with your purchase. 🙂

You might want to steer clear of those returns or open boxes on the Samsungs.

Some HLPs have an audio sync problem. Chances are, that may have been returned for the problem. I wouldn't want to get stuck with someone elses problem if I was spending that much money.

Heres a tip:

********DON"T BUY AN OPEN BOX DLP FROM BEST BUY*************

Not very smart as you don't know how much use the bulb has gone through, or any factors since the pedestal dlp is quite delicate. Not a smart move IMO. If you need any more info why not to do this, feel free to PM me.
