This was $80, and then had a $20 MIR a few weeks ago when I bought it (same system). Looks like the price went up a little bit in the last month.

Fixed for you.

Though Sony is probably just as bad ;)

It is true you get what you pay for but the one exception for me has been apex. I currently have a 27" TV as well as one of there very cheap dvd players. Both work exceptionally well. If this were an apex system i would probably consider it.

If you need a cheap system for a not too big of space, then it is useful. I'm horrible at comparing different audio sources though. It all depends on what you need I guess.

i'm thinking if you want the best sound reproduction possible for a low-price, you should give yourself a better chance and buy either floorstanding or larger bookshelf speakers. they tend to perform better at a similar price range. there really is only so much these little cube boxes will do for you, as far as mid-range. then again, if you're not picky, then more power/money to ya! many people seem to be satisfied with, and actually prefer a "V-shaped" frequency response. this, of course, doesn't work well at all for classical music or heavy vocals!

My brother just got Logitech z-680 speakers for his home theater. I don't think I'd ever want anything more...they sound good, have a remote control, can plug into a lot of devices, and have real speaker wire so you can get more distance easily.
