Home theater setup question

This question involves setup of the front 3 speakers in a HT audio setup.

Given these choices what would be the better bet.

1.Center, LF, RF all mounted at exact same height, but above listening position.
2.LF, RF mounted at listening position, center above listening position.

To clarify in case your not seeing it the way I am trying to explain it. The listening position is ear level while seated on a couch/chair. So I could mount all front speakers about 1.5-2 feet above this position, but all at the same height. Or I could mount the front left and right at ear level(while seated) and mount the center again at aproximately 1.5-2 feet above ear level. I guess another choice I have would be to mount the center in front of the TV, but this would cause it to be 6-10 inches closer to the listener then the front left and right, and I heard that doing that was not good. So let me know what you think. Thanks
