Question Home Theater PC

Anyone here have a PC they use for their home theater rather than a stereo receiver? I am building two wall mounted units for my theater room and family room and would like to know if these could be used for surround sound and even house the DVR.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, opinions and experience.

I have an older (i5 2500K) unit I still use for a HTPC and PC for my wife. I have the audio output feed an external amp that feeds the speakers.... it works pretty well. The amp is about 2"x4"x6"... so it's quite small. I'm sure there are audio cards you can install as well that would provide an audio line out... this was just the solution I came up with so I could disappear my old Denon amp.
