Is there any product on the market that stores and plays a lot of music files besides a laptop or Desktop?

I know most people have a media server running but I'd like too move away from that and have an all in one unit that:

1. Stores various music files on hdd: flac, wma, wav, etc
2. Has a display for playback (don't really wanna turn on the TV)
3. Remote control and possibly tablet control

Seems like this product should exist...

Define a lot. Maybe you can just use a tablet with big SD card and Bt link to sound system?

And if you are talking terabytes, you are gonna have to either use a computer or pay for a very expensive proprietary system.

You mean like some kind of device that would play MP3s? A MP3 Player if you will?

Portable players are OK, but made really small so corners have to be cut, looking for something that does 24/192khz music files, .ape, .flac, etc.

If I build a HTPC, I still need a monitor and mouse. :\

Building an HTPC does not necessarily mean that you have to get a monitor and a mouse. You can easily control Kodi through its iOS and Android applications.

I tried adding my music library to plex but it is just crazy how many files it creates.

I like the idea of a tablet with a large SD card. Or if you need A LOT of space a tablet wirelessly connected to a NAS.

I have experimented with my BluRay player. I attached a hdd to the USB port and play files. Still need a monitor but at least there is remote control.

Lots of things do it.

Even my cheap MP3 player does FLAC's no problem, it's pretty much a matter of what you are really doing I suppose.

External USB hardrives ? Never used one myself, but they seem popular, or used to be.

*edit* NM, looks like you have.

lol, $2k-$3k for a music player

How about a Rpi2, run kodi, use any leftover cell phone as the screen and remote (running Yatse or Kore). Done for <$50, plus the cost of the SD card(s) to run the OS and hold the library.

iPad/iPhone + AppleTV + Apple Music = A huge, easy to control music library for <$1000. If you already have an iPad/iPhone, and you're looking at <$100 solution.

Yep that's what I'd do but I don't know what the OP's intentions are. I'm not much of an audiophile so perhaps they are looking to play lossless files on a high end system somehow. Maybe I'm wrong but someone with such a system capable of playing back the subtle differences would want to use something other than digital files no?

Digital files are the only way to go beyond CD's 16/44.1khz, they are also easy to get online at a host of stores.

24/192 capability
4TB+ HDD (additional bays)
Large display on front
Remote Control
Tablet Control
Search Function
Wifi + LAN

I see, well it shows how much I actually keep up with that. Most people I know who call themselves audiophiles have expensive vynal setups and collections.
