Home theater gurus, post specs/pics of your system

I was bitten by the home theater bug several months ago, and now my system is complete (for now). I have alost 400 DVD's in my collection, and I find myself watching a lot of them over again since the sound is simply amazing in my new home. Thank goodness the neighbors don't mind. 🙂

[*]Denon 3802
[*]Klipsch Reference Series II - RF3 II fronts, RC3 II center, RS3 II dipole surrounds
[*]Dual SVS 20-39CS+ subs
[*]Samson S1000 amp
[*]JVC Hi-Fi VCR
[*]Sony 5 disc CD changer
[*]JVC SA70BK progressive DVD player
[*]Hitachi 53UWX10B 53" 16:9 HDTV
[*]Hughes E86 HDTV receiver
[*]Salamander audio rack
[*]Sanus rear surround stands
[*]AR Pro series cable throughout

I used AVIA to calibrate the system so that 00 on the Denon = 105db. I will usually watch movies at -15 when the GF is next to me. When I am alone it goes up to reference level most of the time.

Here is a recent pic

Here is another

The Television is built into the wall out of an old closet. Great for getting at those pesky wires 🙂

Damn John Nice system

How much do ya have invested in it if you don't mind me asking

Ausm

I saw a thread from December 2001 and it only had a few replies. Not to mention they were all before Christmas. I am sure Santa was good to a lot of folks.

I have (2) SVS subs because my living room is huge, and really has no corners to speak of. I have a very spacious floor plan. That is the reason you see both subs up front, and near the entry way. They sound the best there, and you really FEEL the bass. Originally I had a SVS 16-46PC (powered) and it wasn't enuff to rock me like these dual CS+'s do.

Dual SVS subs can fill almost any room with reference level bass. Reference level bass = fvcking hard to get.

Then you missed this one done March 7th I was only trying to be courteous.

I'm no audiophile, so please explain....what is 'reference level bass' and what are the other kinds of bass if there even is such a thing?

I guess I should have posted a "Babe Thread" instead since they are quite rare around these parts. 🙂

Does that TV offer component inputs?

Why didn't you choose to go with a monitor without any built in features or sound, and then get an external video and audio switching console that would handle all the inputs (VCR, DVD, HDTV tuner, DSS, CD Audio, etc.)?

Damn Viperoni, don't you save copies of all your posts? I can post stuff from ages ago, like my lowly HT setup from 12-7-00: Why not just dive in the archives and pull it up?
  • That likely won't happen, my setup is currently in moderate disarray, and in a state of (constant) rebuilding

    No pics, but:

    32inch Toshiba
    Pioneer DV-525 DVD
    Pioneer vsx-d608 Receiver
Sherwood surrounds as mains (taking apart the big towers to rebuild them later)
The 15inch Dayton DVC sub, see sig.

    My DIY audio site with:
-Powering a Car amp off an ATX PS
    -PE 300-794 Amp crossover mod
    -2 12inch Peerless XLS's in a Sunfire
    -Paradigm 5se speaker resto pics
-15inch Dayton DVC HT sub project

ausm, I more than 1K invested, but less than 10K. 🙂

thereds, Dolby reference level is 105db peaks. With my SPL meter I see peaks of 115+db from the subs. It provides a realistic experience when watching a movie. However, most people find that kind of level to be too loud.

sbastedo, thank you for the compliment. I only wish the rest of the house looked as good. J/K 🙂

Stealth1024, my TV offers 2 sets of component inputs. I have the Hughes DirecTv on one, and the DVD on the other. Should I need more, the Denon offers component switching. The Hitachi doesn't have DD like it's bigger brother, and I didn't need it anyhow since my receiver has everything I need. I only need to use a single HomeTheater Master MX500 remote to control everything.

Check out my sig for pictures; I'm too lazy to type out what everything is and what it cost.

From the pictures, you can't tell tell we actually have two Velodyne HGS-12 subs. If you know the Velodyne specs, you know that they kick some major butt! You can also see a Proceed AVP ($5000) - all digital inputs - balanced outputs. The balanced outputs cost more than the receiver: they're silver and teflon shielded - very sweet looking and no digital pics of them yet. Proceed AMP5, Proceed AMP2, Faroudja line scaler, Sony projector, B&W Nautilus speakers w/ bi-wired connections.

Boy thats nice!

Well, here is my DORM-theater 🙂 hehe...don't mind any mess or booze bottles lying around

Front view
dvd player and receiver
Subwoofer (its in a corner)
left surround
right surround

my dvds
hybrid couch/bed

Gear:
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V496
DVD: Panasonic RV31
TV: 27" with s-video connection 🙁
Mains: Paradigm Titans v2
Center: Paradigm CC-150 (same as cc-170 basically)
Surrounds: Paradigm Atoms
Subwoofer: Paradigm PDR-10

It's not much but it'll do for now 😉 And AFAIK, it's the best system in the entire dorms (~700 people) :Q This summer some stuff will get an upgrade, undecided on what yet...

Mungla I am totally jealous. But of course when I'm older, settled down, and have some money in the bank I'll be building myself a dedicated theater room as well. 🙂
