Home Theater for speakers

Hello all,

Is it possible to hook up a home theater system to a desktop? I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and I want to hook up a 5.1 system to it....has anyone done anything like this? What kind of cables would I need to get?

Thanks!

you need a Home Theater receiver with 6 channel or 5.1 inputs. Where each channel is input independentlty. Hook the left and right front to your front output on the sound card using Mini Din to Stereo RCA plugs. Do the same for the rear.

cmdrdredd,

Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit confused....so are the each speaker (left/right fronts, left/right rears) go into the sound card directly (with the help of that adapter you mentioned)? What about the receiver, the subwoofer, and the center channel speaker? How do they connect? Sorry if this is a noob question, not quite familar with the whole HTS setup.

Both the speakers and soundcard are plugged into the receiver. For a simple and recommended digital connection that will allow DD/DTS passthrough, you can use the versajack on the SC as a SPDIF to connect to the receiver. The alternative is connecting the SC to the receiver using analog methods which would include using 3 1/8th to stereo RCA cables connected to a receiver with 5.1 analog in.

The better way to do it would be to output the sound from your soundcard via its digital(S/PDIF) output to a receiver. That way you skip the lower quality on-board DACs of your TBSC for a higher quality DACs on your receiver, which are probably 24/96 if they're even halfway decent.

To do so, you'll have to configure your TBSC's VersaJack to be used as a digital output. Then, connect a normal minijack to L/R RCA Y-plug to it, and one of the RCA connectors will be the one you should use, I can't remember which one, check your manual.
