Finally got around to purchasing AVIA. Let me just say SUPERB dvd... I love how it not only gives you a ton of test patterns, but the navigation is simple, and i love how it gives a fairly in depth explanation of each pattern, what it does, and what to look for.

Now to my question,

Am i correct in assuming that since my tv maintains different picture settings for EACH input on the TV, i would have to run the dvd player into each input and calibrate accordingly? Or would i just copy the settings i used in one to the other.

The current inputs i use are;

Component 1 (High Def DVR)
Component 2 (XBox)
HDMI (DVD Player)

What kind of TV do you own? That is a huge quesstion. I've calibrated hundreds of Mitsubishi TV's. If you are calibrating form the service menu it should have a global effect through every input by input resolution. If you are trying to do it through the standard consumer menu you are pissing in the wind.

Google the service codes and service manual. Adjusting the color without a meter is a learned skill... kind of like tuning a violin without a meter. It takes practice. The black level & white level adjustments can be made by eye fairly easily. There shouldn't be a lot of geometry adjustments needed on a DLP.

MOST DMD televisions are fairly close to 65k in their low color temp settings. Adjusting the black level and top white will usually be enough to make the TV pop.

The problem with using the consumer menu to do your adjustments is that there aren't enough fine adjustments in that menu and the changes aren't permenent. If you do decide to delve into the service menu for your adjustments make sure you write down all the values in the menu before you change anything. That way if you f*ck it all up you can change it back.

Have fun!

Thanks for the info... I'll search around the Toshiba DLP thread over at AVS to see if i can find out how to delve into the service menu.
