Home Theater and Speakers and Sound categories also redundant

I say keep them separated. Are you folks really that dense?

If anything Home Theater should be killed, because it is a subset of speakers and sound, not the other way around. Speakers are used in MANY different ways, not just HT (and I'd argue less in HT than other areas).

Meh, it's like having an "Off Topic" and a "Not On Topic" category.

I'll put it in other words:

I see "Speakers and Sound' as more encompassing than "Home Theater". So I ask why do you and others think S&S should get the axe but HT should remain-?

I'd bet good money that there are far more people who have speakers/headphones they use for music listening than a HT.

The solution? Get rid of Home Theater, keep S&S since it covers the entire realm of sound reproduction (not just HT), and create a Display Devices forum for computer LCD, HDTV, projector discussion.

There, perfect.

Ok, how about they call just one category Home Theater & Sound? Home Theater & Speakers? HTS&S?

I agree with Excelsior. there is more to HT than just speakers, and there is more to speakers than HT. I have speakers and audio in my house, in my car, and in my pocket.

You want a couple of sections that could be combined?

"Phones and Communication" and "Mobile Media Devices".

Am I right?

I didn't see that. I think those should be combined into just mobile media devices.

I think we just need to come up with a category that handles both of these areas.

Splitting it up so much is going to make for a couple slow moving and redundant areas.

It seems like HT is intended to focus on displays with sound going to the other area?

Maybe something along the lines of "Audio/Video"? (but not so lame)

You're on the right track. Like I said a few posts up, just have a forum for display devices (including computer displays) and another forum for sound (speakers and subs of all types, headphones, mics, anything audio goes). It makes perfect sense. Both forums should get enough traffic.

One for display devices and one for audio makes sense to me

A lot easier for people to decide what to post in as well.

I'll go even further and suggest that the existing 4 forums under the "Consumer Electronics" category should be merged into one. Why not merge it all into an "Audio/Video" forum? This isn't AVS Forum. I doubt Anandtech is going to see enough traffic to justify keeping 4 separate forums.

We're going to try to build our forum traffic to support the additions.

We've still got a fair few changes up our sleeves that we hope will help out.
