@home switch to AT&T

I'm not a tech guy so pardon any lingo mistakes

I am running a SMC wireless network with my desktop connected to the router via cable and use the wireless NIC on my laptop. Router is hooked up a cable modem that is now AT&T.

I was switched over from @home to AT&T last week and have been using my setup just fine. Last night I could not get access through the router, but could by plugging my desktop into the cable modem. I called tech support (before realizing I could access the network directly) and they mentioned that the network is not using network names but MAC addresses.

Is there anyway to configure my system so I can continue to use my router? I know I can pony up $5/mth for another IP, but $50/mth is plenty. If I change to DSL would I have the same problem?

Please let me know if you need any other information to help.

Thank you for any assistance.

Do you recall if they had your desktop NIC's MAC address before? Most @Home setups I know about (mine for sure) only use the address of the cable modem, not the NIC. Otherwise, I'd guess it's something else.....

If they are using the mac address of your nic then you simply right that down, telnet into your router, and the router should have a spot to input a mac address.

yeah, do what aug1516 said to. It's named something like WAN MAC Address. That is what it is called on my dlink 804 (that pos is SLOW!!! I don't even use it anymore)
