Home stereo problem, humming any solutions?

Well ok here's the problem. Currently my receiver/stereo is connected to my pc via the soundcard. Everything works fine except for one thing. There is a constant humming, now if I reach down under the desk and move the power strip around and touch the plug that goes into the wall, the humming stops. Maybe sometimes I have to move it around a bit at the same time. For whatever reason the humming doesn't happen through the computer speakers, just when it's run through to the receiver. Any solutions?
Thanks!

the wiring is a little shoddy, but it should be grounded. Well I'd hope. (in a dorm currently)

what kind of surge protection are you using?? if its just s power strip from walmart, that's probably your problem, but like doggiedog said, get a line conditioner for the best results, or go get a good surge protector, something by monster cable or panamax.

If the stereo & pc are going into the same wall plug, try moving one to a different plug. You may get lucky.

Is there a ground on the receiver? You should ground that also. If all else fails get a nice monster power surge/conditioner. Overpriced but it solves many problems.
