Home/small business backup solution

Topic pretty much says it all. I have a couple users who need to run regular backups of their small business computers (laptop and a couple desktops). These backups need to be stored offsite.

So at this point I'm thinking either an external hard drive with some good backup software on each machine OR using a reputable web based company that specializes in hosting backups.

Which would cause less headaches?

Spending a little money is not a big deal so if I go with the external HDD method I want good software that is user friendly and works well.

Getting by "on the cheap" for business use is false economy.
If the data is valuable, it should be treated so.

A hardware based backup taken off-site AND cloud backups are :thumbsup:

I said in the OP that spending some money is not an issue.

So you're suggesting that I do both of my options? Great.
Can I get some suggestions as to which software and/or web based company to use?
 
* Automatic online backups > Carbonite
* Hardware backups > Patriot Xporter XT 16GB running incremental backups with SyncBack Pro.
Patriot Xporter XT drives are robust and very fast. :thumbsup::laugh:

USB drive option = no spinning platters or HD to fail.
Extremely portable and affordable.
Also in a 32GB version if they need that much.

The software looks good. Not sure about the USB flash drives... I'll need to confirm their backup size requirements. Would you recommend getting 2 drives and alternating them between on and offsite?

not sure what you have available to you...or what your association is with these guys, you could get a NAS and do it yourself.

otherwise go with a professional company to do it. You and your clients will be happy you did.
 
I have recently become quite impressed with this software for saue with external drives. It does mnay things including ZIP format so no issues with proprietary backup formats, uses its own index, so does not conflict with, say, Acronis and other backup software, very flexible, can handle 2 or more external drives, does NAS or FTP backup as well. I am thinking of moving my SMB clients to it, and have already moved myself to it.

I figure at the end of the day, good local backup software with 2 external drives, one off site, will handle 99% of the issues that could come up and the client is in control of it all.

My antidote to all this CLOUD hype 🙂
