Home setup advice

I have Verizon Fios so I am stuck with their router. I don't like the fact that they have access to my network so the Wireless and router is useless. They even have my SSID and network key when I log in to the verizon account so that is just BS to me.

Anyway.....

I got the gigabit verizon router to start with. I want to pick up the new Netgear AC1900 Nighthawk R7000 Wireless router.

I have the house hardwired in most rooms so all the network connections are where the other lines are in the basement in the utility room, so putting the Nighthawk would be worthless as the basement is all concrete and I won't get much of a signal on the 2nd floor, however I like all the performance of this router as well as the management and I want my wired connections to be behind my own router so what are options at this point?

I want the performance through the house but i'd like to keep it simple with one network, besides the guess network.

Would it make sense to just put the router I want where it needs to be and then just add an access point off one of the wired connections on the top floor? I could also connect the nighthawk to one of the connections on the top floor but that make it difficult to connect the router to the verizon box, so I would be adding another router.....

The basement is finished so I need to cover the entire 3 floors.

What other options do I have?

I don't see a good way to do it without multiple devices. You could possibly buy a cheap router that is DD-WRT compatible, put it behind the Verizon router, and then home run everything to that router and place the Netgear on the second floor. Even then, though, I suspect you're going to need more access points (not sure how large your house is).

Well, the 1st and 2nd floor is an open design, I have an open foyer. I have the WRT610N now, so I am going to put that in the basement and just use it as a firewall for Verizon, I can then have a switch for my hardwired lines and then I can put the new router upstairs where it can do it's thing up there. I'll just have the basement on it's own network. I just realized that the WRT610N is a GB switch, which is what I want. So That should do me I like the idea of having several access points but to get the high speeds ones, that cost a little loot. I'll try this setup and if I need another one, then so be it.
