So this summer I built a computer, and I want to use my Dell for me and my 2 room mates to share files - music etc.

Whats the easiest way to do this?

We all have Windows XP Pro

the Dell is a 2.8GB p4 northwood, 512mb pc2700

If you are all on the very same network. The easy way would just share a folder on the server system. Then you then can just access the files through the network.

OK, there a guide to do it? Im totally clueless when it comes to Windows networking - is it just as simple as everyone turning on file sharing and putting stuff in the shared documents? I think I tried that once and I still coulnt figure out how to access their folders.
Also, in your shared folders, can you add shortcuts?
